Excerpts from my life story, What Didn't Kill Me Made Me Stronger

Fireworks
...For me, the sight was one of the most spectacular things I have ever seen.  The show wasn't anything out of the ordinary as far as fireworks go.  It didn't last an especially long time.  But I was getting to see it, with my newly healed eye.  The bright colors of the starbursts high above us were clear as they lit up the night.  The river below reflected the brilliant light, broken into hundreds of points of color on the water's waves.  It was beautiful and I didn't take it for granted...

Abyss

...There didn't seem to be any point in fighting this.  My mind drifted to a dark place.  It was the place where hope never goes.  I stepped to the edge of the black pit I had heard about, but never looked for...and peered into it.

For the first time, I understood why people kill themselves.  It was from lack of hope.  Hope for a better future is what keeps us going.

That abyss was deep and the bottom was nowhere to be seen.  There was only darkness and fear down there, an even darker, more fearful place than the inside of my mind.

Get out of here.  Get away from here, fast!
